The Urban Laboratory recruits students as interns & volunteers from local colleges and universities to help develop build and stabilize communities through civic engagement, outreach programs and experiential learning opportunities.
These service-based learning opportunities will involve applying classroom learning to hands-on, real-life experiences. This is an important piece of the educational experience as it reinforces what students learn in the classroom it allows them to put their knowledge into action to build the skills and real world understanding of 21st urban issues.
Some of the projects may include forming / supporting the following:
- Small business innovation center
- Community learning center
- Food hub / neighborhood greenhouses
- Co-operative Coffee Shop / Bakery
- Early literacy academy
- Youth Resource Center / dance studio
- Senior Center
- Consignment Shop
